There is a floating restaurant with locally prepared foods and a jungle bar. In the kitchen, piles of vegetables, herbs, lemongrass, fruits and grated spice litter the countertops. Containers of oils, condiments and fragrant sauces line up behind bowls of chopped limes oozing with fragrance.

Traveling to far away lands can be a useful education. It gives us a chance to explore places, events, and things both everyday and profound.

Teleseminar:  Thurs, Sep 30, 2010

September and October 2010 celebrates recovery from Childhood Obesity, Adult Obesity, Addictions (substance-abuse, alcoholism) and Eating Disorders.

Tens of millions of sufferers aged 12 or older need treatment for a substance abuse or eating disorder in the United States, and their families are also affected by these afflictions. Many people do not understand that drug-addiction, alcoholism, and eating disorders are treatable diseases, and this misconception can keep people from getting help.

Recovery is an annual observance that brings attention to recovery programs during the months of September and October 2010.

In support of Michelle Obama's initiatives to address childhood obesity, and to help overcome barriers to long-term recovery, SustainableContentment dot com will host a Nationwide Teleseminar on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 8:00PM CST. This event is intended to increase public awareness about childhood obesity, addictions and eating disorders and will discuss what families can do about it. It will also educate people about the positive effect that treatment and recovery can have on loved ones and the well-being of our communities, and will celebrate people in recovery - and those who help them.

The purpose of the Teleseminar is to bring awareness to the societal benefits of recovery treatment, to commend the contributions of treatment programs and promote the message that recovery from substance abuse, alcoholism, addiction, eating disorders (obesity, bulimia, anorexia, and binge-eating) - is possible. The Teleseminar will also encourage citizens to take action to help expand and improve the availability of effective substance abuse treatment for those in need. This is an effort to educate the public about treatment, how it works, for whom, and why. Recovery programs have made significant accomplishments, having transformed the lives of untold thousands of Americans. These successes often go unnoticed by the broader population.

The Teleseminar will be moderated by C.J. Good, author of Little Gifts of Sustainable Contentment, a healing book of recovery. "It is time for citizens to start helping their friends and neighbors by noticing the signs of addiction and offering places to turn for help," said C.J. Good. "By alerting people to the recovery services available, we can help community members and their families find a path of recovery, encourage access to treatment services for all those in need. and help sufferers lead productive, healthy lives."

To register for this free Teleseminar event, RSVP at: goodconnie(at)sustainablecontentment(dot)com. Also
Check the recovery month website - http://www.recoverymonth.gov - to find other events in your area.

Another organization, NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association - http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org ) hosts an annual walk that takes place on Sunday October 3rd, 2010 from 11am to 1pm in New York. The Walk is NEDA's largest fundraising and community building event. NEDA is a non-profit national organization dedicated to helping families and those who suffer from bulimia, anorexia, or binge eating disorder. It is estimated that up to 10 million people in this country suffer from an eating disorder.

These events also serve to educate the public on childhood obesity as a national health crisis; that addiction, alcoholism and obesity are treatable diseases, and that recovery is possible. "We want to highlight the benefits of treatment for not only the affected individual, but for their family, friends, workplace, and society as a whole." says C.J. Good. "Educating the public reduces the stigma associated with addiction and treatment. Accurate knowledge of these diseases helps people to understand the importance of supporting treatment programs, those who work within the treatment field, and those in need of treatment."
